Fire Rebuilds
In response to the Eaton and Palisades fires, Sato Architects has taken concrete steps to serve our community in rebuild efforts. Audrey received a certification in Wildfire Defense for Construction Professionals from USGBC-CA, which taught her about fire hardening best practices. Audrey also became a registered SAP Evaluator, which means she is trained and deployable to green/yellow/red tag structures for safety after natural disasters. Additionally, she volunteers with the AIA Pasadena-Foothill Chapter's Wildfire Response Group, doing what she can to help the community's fire survivors.
Altadena Craftsman
The existing home, which was in the family for multiple generations, was completely lost in the Eaton fire. Sato Architects was hired to incorporate elements from the home that the owner loved, while changing the home's style to a Craftsman-inspired design that the owner was drawn to. In addition, the design added features like a true primary suite with a walk-in closet and bathroom and a walk-in pantry in the kitchen.
The project integrates many fire hardening features, such as eliminating attic vents, fire rated walls and noncombustible eaves, and specifying windows with tempered glazing and noncombustible frames.
Alphabet Street Rebuild
Pacific Palisades, CA
In 2013, Sato Architects designed a second story addition in the Alphabet streets neighborhood of the Palisades. Our client lived across the street from this project and admired the work that was done. After the fires, the clients reached out to us, wanting to rebuild within the 110% guidelines without replicating the existing home. Our proposed design focuses on California living: a focus on indoor-outdoor casual living that maximizes wellness through plentiful light, views, and privacy. The project integrates many fire hardening features, such as creating an ember-resistant "Zone 0", eliminating attic vents, and designing a noncombustible exterior that includes metal roofing and fiber-cement siding.
